The Menu Bar

The menu bar has several links:

• Home – the main page
• Contact Us – our names and email addresses so that you can send us email
• Feedback – give us feedback on our convenient form
• Alerts – sign up for an email service that will alert you when the resource database is updated
• Help – the instructions
• Admin Login – that’s just for us!

The User Agreement

In order to use the EBM Page Generator, you must agree to give credit to both Dartmouth and Yale. And to make it easy for you, we provide the statement on the final page that you generate. By checking the I agree to these terms box, you agree not to remove that statement.

Check the box to agree to these terms and click on the Proceed button.

Five Steps to Build Your Own EBM Page

1. Select Page Title and EBM Definition

2. Select EBM Resources

Select all the resources that you want to be on your page from our Resources Database. You can edit our entries or add your own.

The organization of the page is based on the Evidence Pyramid, which is segmented into multiple categories. The form reflects this structure of categories and individual resources. And this is the structure the created page will have, too.

Let’s get started:

The default is to have all the items checked. So uncheck the ones that you don’t offer at your institution.

For all the resources that you do want to have displayed, make sure the item is checked and click on Edit. You need to Edit because at the very least you MUST add your own URL.

To add a new item, click on the Add New Item link. Use this for the resources that are not in our database.

When you are done editing and adding resources, click on the Proceed to Step 3 button at the bottom of the page.

3. Select EBM Information Sites

You may want to include links to additional sources of EBM information. We've included the following types of sites:

• Evidence-Based Medicine Information Sites
• Evidence-Based Medicine Tutorials
• Evidence-Based Medicine Resources for the PDA
• Local Resources (e.g. class handouts, tip sheets)

When you are done editing and adding information sites, click on the Proceed to Step 4 button at the bottom of the page.

4. Preview the Page

To make changes to your page, close the "preview" browser window. Use the "back" button to find the page where you need to make changes. Make the changes and preview your page again.

When you are done previewing, click on the Proceed to Step 5 button at the bottom of the page.

5. Get the Code

Ok, here’s the part where you copy and paste the code for the page that you’ve just created on your computer or your server. If this is confusing, contact your webmaster for help. Follow the steps carefully.

Widget

This widget will help generate your page but only if you know your header and footer files. If you don't know the file names, ask your webmaster. If your website does not use header and footer files, then go back to Get the Code.

Congratulations, you’re done! View your page and make any cosmetic changes you want to your own code. You can change fonts, add horizontal rules, logos, headers, footers, italics or whatever you want to make the page pleasing. Just don’t remove the credit line!

Also, here are a few things that it can’t do, yet.

• You can’t save a session and come back to it later. You need to have enough time to go through the entire process or you will lose your work.
• If you want to update your page, you’ll have to start all over again with our page generator – we don’t have the capacity to create user space for everyone. Don’t forget, though, that you could simply update the page your existing page by editing the html.
• At this point, you can't change the pyramid itself, nor can you change the labels.
